Family Child Care Association
of
Kootenai County

The Family Child Care Association of Kootenai County was originally
established in 1992 with the goal of forming a support group for
people who offer child care in their homes. Since we began,
we have established a strong network of providers who meet
in a member’s home each month to discuss issues in our
field of work, share knowledge and concerns, and strive to improve the
quality of our programs. Although providers support is still a main
purpose of our organization, in the last few years we have widened
our scope to include many other activities and services. In fact,
the Family Child Care Association is now recognized as a
community leader in its dedication to improving
the quality of life and care for children.

          Quality child care starts with a dedicated and caring individual,
but on-going training is necessary to educate a provider in how
to care for the total needs of each child—socially, emotionally,
physically, and intellectually. Education training ensures that
a provider is capable of dealing with such important child care
issues as: health, safety and nutrition, child guidance and
discipline, establishing developmentally appropriate
activities, and offering quality child care in a positive,
non-violent, anti-bias, anti-racial environment.

          Another activity that our Association is dedicated to, is
community outreach, a very important aspect of our commitment
to children. We are determined to reach out to others in our
community to help educate, advocate, and promote quality care
for our children. Besides education for child care providers,
we do what we can to help educate families on child care
issues by offering information, resources, and referrals
that give them diverse and equal access to high quality
child care services that are both reliable and affordable.
We stress family involvement in their children’s learning
and strive to develop a positive balance between
a child, parents, and a provider.
